a-psy-de from gangnam style

Most people, myself included, knew about Psy because of his viral song "Gangnam Style". I mean, I know Psy exists - He's an artist from YG and that he's been in the industry for around 10 years now. I knew about him first when he sort of defended SNSD when they were being bash some time in the past. But I honestly haven't tried listening to any of his songs. Until he released his song "Gangnam Style" that is.

Two nights ago, I had the chance to watch a livestream of Psy's concert in Seoul. It was in Youtube. Apparently, livestream-ing in Youtube is nearly impossible for my unstable internet connection. While praying for the net to cooperate, I busied myself with reading real-time comments from others watching the stream. Mind you it was updating like crazy! Sadly though, most of the comments were either requesting him to "perform Gangnam Style", asking "when is Gangnam Style gonna' be sung?", or some were even harsh to say that his other songs were boring and made no sense.

As a KPop fan for quite some time now, I'm really offended by these people. I admit it was "Gangnam Style" that made Psy's popularity explode in the world so it was what they were expecting to see. But to belittle his other songs is unacceptable. Psy is a legend in KPop. I may not be a fan but I have respect for him.

And after coming across two other songs of his, "It's Art" and "Father", my respect for the man grew even more. These two songs are different from "Gangnam Style". Both songs are mellow and more emotional. The lyrics are well-written. The songs were calming and stormy at the same time. It's just pure art coming from a genuine Korean artist.

Get to know a different side of Psy from these two songs. Check it out yourselves so you can be the judge.

the innocent man

For those of you looking for a Korean drama to add to your to-watch list, I'd like to recommend this new melodrama offered by KBS entitled The Innocent Man (aka Nice Guy). This drama aired its first episode last September 12, 2012 and is shown every Wednesdays and Thursdays.  Its main cast stars Song Joong-KiMoon Chae-Won, and Park Si-Yeon.

PLOT (cr. wikipedia)

Smart and hopeful medical student Kang Ma-ru (Song Joong-ki) has been in love all his life with his slightly older next-door neighbor Han Jae-hee (Park Si-yeon), a television reporter. He is an adoring boyfriend and she always considered Ma-ru her home.

But when her situation takes a turn for the worse and Jae-hee becomes desperate to escape poverty, she meets a man who changes everything -- a rich CEO who introduces her to a life of comfort. So she turns her back on Ma-ru, choosing money over love. The brutal betrayal leaves Ma-ru fractured -- not just angry, but a completely changed man.

A few years later, Ma-ru is now 30 years old and works as a bartender and gigolo, no longer a "nice guy." He then meets Seo Eun-gi (Moon Chae-won), a young chaebol heiress who's being groomed to take over her father's conglomerate. Eun-gi is cold and calculating, business-savvy, and raised by her father to never show emotion to anyone. But Ma-ru intrigues her, and she becomes curious, and then interested, and then she can’t stop thinking about him.

And when Eun-gi loses her memory after an accident, Ma-ru decides to takes advantage of her as a pawn in his plans for revenge. Eun-gi falls in love with Ma-ru, not knowing that he’s using her to get back at his ex, Jae-hee, who happens to be Eun-gi's young, gold-digging stepmother.

The Innocent Man is rather different from the usual K-dramas that I've watched before (that's really not saying much 'cause I've only watched just about 5 dramas).

It's dark. It's passionate. It's vengeful. It's full of spite.

Every character is doing their best to mark their spot in this drama. I feel bad for MaRu though. A lot of the viewers probably do too. He transformed from this kind, intelligent guy to a revenge-seeking monster. His love for JaeHee never left him and thus he can never let go of his past. I think this is the main reason why he's so determined on retaliating. You can't deny how "electrifying" the chemistry between Joong-Ki and Chae-Won is. And I have to stress that I am MaRu-EunGi biased. Who would even ship MaRu-JaeHee?? That's REVOLTING!!!

Overall, I am looking forward to how the rest of this drama will unfold. As for now though, all I can do is wait for the episodes to be released and subbed as this is an on-going drama in Korea. So if you have time, go watch it too! ^^
